Race, Equality and the American Dream: A Conversation with Logan Browning

Over the years, Logan and I have had so many deep and meaningful discussions. We learn from each other and I always feel safe asking her any questions I may have because I know she will always share her truth. She broaches hard conversations with wisdom and compassion, yet she is never afraid to speak her mind. In this conversation we discussed the long overdue national reckoning we are experiencing amidst racism, systemic inequality, and deep political polarization. I asked her about the way experience and language shape our national conversations, especially when it comes to controversial terms like "Defund the Police" and how we can even begin to build bridges if we are all coming from so many different places of understanding. We also talked about the meaning of the American Dream, the way art shapes activism, and most importantly, why we are excited about this opportunity to reimagine and rebuild a better future for everyone.

Here’s is what Logan has to say to people who tell her she should stick to acting and “stay in her lane”.

If we’re not wiling to protect those that have never been able to survive, then the concept of the American Dream is just farce.
